Résumé

True crime is a genre in itself that tries to examine or portray real crimes. In Spain, video-on-demand platforms such as Netflix, HBO and Movistar are increasingly investing in this type of content. From 2016 to 2021, during 5 years, 12 true crime documentaries have been produced in our country. This study aims to establish the evolution and characteristics of this type of audiovisual content produced in Spain and available on streaming services. For this research, a special analysis table has been drawn up, with 8 sections common to all the documentaries in the study sample. In this way, it has been possible to establish common features, as well as the development of this genre in Spain in recent years. It is concluded that Spanish true crime productions on digital platforms are booming and most of them have a more intimate and creative tendency, leaving aside morbidity and sensationalism.
