Résumé

With the arrival of the streaming technology, one can notice a certain movement within the cinematographic industry putting a spotlight on the role of women both in the field of making cinema and being a character in it. Women, their stories, their role within society, and how problems affect them have become important subjects of contemporary cinema, which is more concerned with the reality of social changes and with the so-called female empowerment. In some of these new cinematographic productions, one can notice female characters portraited in multiple professions, such as psychology or psychiatry, as shown in “Gypsy”, “Wanderlust”, and “8 in Istanbul”, which reveal three different mental health professionals shedding a light on the intimate relationship between cinema and the human Psyche. This work’s goal is to analyze these characters through the lens of different theories of social psychology, especially their role in the society in which they are inserted.
