Abstract

The use of vernacular “adobe” construction persists in Portugal and Brazil. The objective of this work is to relate two adobe manufacturing workshops, present in the you tube films: “Taipa” (João Bernardino, 2013) and “Vernacular techniques, preservation and sustainability: a case study of the adobe technique in the Victorian district Veloso (Bichinho), Prados, Minas Gerais” (Ribeiro, 2013). The workshops maintain the adobe manufacturing technique, updating it to the present day. After identifying the videos and presenting references about adobe in Portugal and Brazil, a brief description and analysis of the workshops was made. We take as a background the concept of “body technique” by Marcel Mauss (2003).
