Resumo

This article is a first approach to the work that I will develop around the unfolding of cinema elements on the stage of contemporary dance.
Over the years I have observed different practices of artists in the field of contemporary dance that interact with the experience of cinema, namely choreographers like Lisa Nelson, Mark Tompkins, and Olga Mesa. After having attended several choreographic workshops with each of these artists I was able to bring the experience of the encounter into my work and always with the feeling that I was at the beginning of a line of work with no end in sight.
In 2022 I had the privilege of doing a research residency in New York, where I met 74-year-old choreographer Cathy Weis. With Weis, I was able to observe how the use of the video camera in choreographic situations not only unfolds possibilities and points of view but also distributes elements of film and video on the stage of dance and performance, working on relationships of attention and direction of the gaze in space (and from the audience’s point of view).
