Chapitre II _ Cinéma - Cinéma
Why do we believe? Cinema as the ultimate device for the historical distortion of Jesus of Nazareth.
Résumé
Cinema has currently been configured as one of the main devices through which the Western population constitutes a large part of its memory of past events. This article addresses the specific issue of the figure of Jesus of Nazareth and the implications that weigh on the cinematic medium in the transmission and reelaboration of his image and events related to his life, whose cultural impact and significance are undeniable even today. The specific problems of reconstructing the past that films on this subject face are presented together with the idiosyncrasies of the diegetic constructions of Antiquity that deal with a scarce or biased corpus of sources, and are in turn contrasted with the impression of reality characteristic of cinema to offer a specific view of a phenomenon that remains very present in the film industry.
