The impact of the film sector on the Spanish economy: from production to exhibition
Résumé
Nowadays, the creative industries can play a very important role in the development of developed economies. Thus, the World Bank points out that the creative economy is likely to be a key driver of longterm economic growth and, therefore, of job creation worldwide. The aim of this study is to assess the economic impact of the film industry in Spain, covering all its key stages, from production to exhibition, including post-production and distribution. It seeks to quantify the impact that the film industry has on the Spanish economy (value added, employment, investment, etc.), together with the effect that the implementation of public policy measures affecting the film sector will have on the country’s overall economy.
To achieve this purpose, this paper does not limit itself to a simple compilation of figures on the film industry in Spain, but develops a multi-sectoral analysis, specially adapted to the objectives of the project, including the elaboration of a social accounting matrix specifically designed for the analysis of the film sector.
