Virtual Reality and Educational Cinema: Towards Immersive Higher Education in Morocco
Resumen
As part of the reform of higher education in Morocco, immersive technologies such as virtual reality (VR) and educational cinema are emerging as innovative levers to improve the quality of teaching and student engagement. Moroccan universities are starting to integrate these tools in order to meet the expectations of a generation of connected and visually stimulated learners. VR makes it possible to simulate complex interactive environments, particularly relevant for learning science, engineering, foreign languages or medicine. For its part, educational cinema, by mobilizing audiovisual narration, promotes intercultural understanding, critical thinking and long-term memorization. Studies conducted in several Moroccan institutions show positive effects: increased motivation, development of autonomy and improvement of academic performance. However, the widespread use of these practices faces several obstacles: the cost of equipment, lack of teacher training and the lack of a clear institutional strategy. Despite these obstacles, pilot initiatives supported by the Ministry of Higher Education and partnerships with EdTech start-ups demonstrate a desire for transformation. This work suggests that the thoughtful integration of VR and educational cinema could be a lever for modernization, inclusion, and innovation for higher education in Morocco.
