Resumen

This paper re-examines the processes of occupation of domestic space in architecture through the fictional films of the new Mexican cinema. We start from the following question: How can fictional films provide a deep understanding of everyday life? how can Ar-chi-tectural-cinematic-representation contribute to a comprehension from occupancy studies of how people live their everydayness in domestic built environments?
This study aims to expand the knowledge that the architectural discipline has about the processes of occupation, and thus arises the ‘cinematic house’ conceived as an infinite Borgian library of timemovement images, spaces full of life where everyday social practices take place.
Everyday life in the “cinematic house” is approached through ethnographic - architectural methods and inscriptive practices, using cinema as an interface-laboratory for the exploration and study of everydayness in domestic spaces called ‘domestic/ cine-lab’.
Through the architectural-cinematic representation, everyday life is shown in filmic space-time through the occupation of the domestic space: kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, etc.; including all its elements: doors, windows, stairs, elevators, etc., as well as the objects emotionally or affectively linked to its inhabitants are key elements in defining the affections for the home.
The discussion focuses on the enrichment of occupancy studies through multidisciplinary research between architecture, film and ethnography. Particularly, on the qualitative contributions to the phenomenon of the study of occupation in architecture, derived from the approach assisted by cinematicethnographic-architectural methods, as well as the importance of drawing in capturing everyday life in the cinematic house for deep understanding of spatial affects in domestic built environments.
