Abstract

Furthermore, disused spaces with no prior connection to the performing arts are being repurposed into theaters and cinemas. These spaces are no longer conceived with a single function; instead, these renovated buildings—as cinemas and theaters—host events, exhibitions, theatrical productions, film screenings, or even serve as creative laboratories that experiment with spatial narrative. This reflects the evolution of media consumption and the importance of the physical environment as a narrative and social element, as seen in projects that combine adaptable functionality.
In this study, we reflect on the evolution of scenic spaces in Extremadura to demonstrate that these venues are necessary and that their construction and maintenance are still advocated for. We aim to highlight the heritage of Extremadura in the sphere concerning audience leisure, specifically by valuing it through the chosen works.
