Abstract

Lavra-dor (1968) is a short-film directed by Ana Carolina and Paulo Rufino, inspired by Mário Chamie’s book of poems Lavra Lavra (1962). Both the film and the poems ostensibly use repetitions in their formal constructions. Both the film and the poems are interested in the peasant world. Through a comparative analysis of film and poems we aim to better grasp the process of “adaptation” crafted by Paulo Rufino and Ana Carolina and the importance of repetition in this very process. Repetition, in the film, can be a direct way of quoting the poems, but can also be a differed form of reflecting upon the construction of the film itself.
