Cinema na era do smartphone: motivações e transformações na experiência do espectador
Resumo
This study investigates the motivations and transformations in the viewing experience of Brazilians aged 18 to 38 who watch movies on their smartphones. Based on a literature review, an online questionnaire survey with 278 respondents, and interviews with cinema professionals, we analyze the behavioral changes of these viewers in light of the growth of digital platforms and the intensive use of smartphones. Emerging as an indispensable tool in contemporary life, the mobile device has redefined audiovisual consumption, allowing for a more personal and individualized experience. Additionally, the viewing of cinematic works adapts to the fast pace and fragmented attention of modern society. According to the results obtained, accessibility, convenience, and mobility are the main reasons Brazilians watch movies on smartphones – along with the autonomy and flexibility to consume content anytime and anywhere, whether at home, on public transportation, or in waiting rooms. However, the research reveals that nearly half of Brazilian users watch movies in a fragmented manner and are frequently distracted by their smartphones, which compromises concentration and diminishes engagement with the narrative. Cinema, therefore, has expanded to other media, bringing new types of immersive experiences to viewers but also presenting new challenges for the industry.
