Résumé

This article explores the representation of the body in contemporary Moroccan cinema through the study of The Blue Caftan directed by Maryam Touzani. The research examines how the film portrays the body as a space of intimacy, silence, desire, and social constraint within contemporary Moroccan society. Adopting a sociocritical and semiological perspective, the study analyzes the symbolic role of gestures, physical contact, clothing, and visual silence in the construction of meaning. Particular attention is given to the representation of masculinity, femininity, hidden desire, and bodily suffering. The article also investigates the symbolic significance of the caftan as a cultural extension of the body and as a marker of identity and emotion. Through subtle cinematic techniques and restrained visual expression, the film proposes a renewed vision of corporeality in Moroccan cinema. This study demonstrates that the body in The Blue Caftan functions not merely as a physical presence but as a social and symbolic language reflecting the tensions between personal identity, emotional expression, and collective norms in contemporary Morocco.
