Da Formação ao Mercado: O Papel da Agência Experimental no Cinema Universitário Brasileiro

Resumo

The film and audiovisual programs increasingly seem to recognize the importance of their role not only in preparing students for the future job market, but also in consolidating a niche of productions that strengthen and solidify the Brazilian film industry. This article aims to present, reflect on, and propose new possibilities for the experimental agency of the Cinema and Audiovisual program (Agecine) at Estácio de Sá University. Comparisons with other universitybased production companies are necessary, but this is not about competition—rather, it is about exploring how different practices lead to diverse possibilities for university filmmaking. Successful examples are also necessary. It is also important to consider how the agency complements and enhances the department that previously managed the program’s productions, the Cinema Center (Nucine). Through an analysis of the films and events produced by the Cinema and Audiovisual program at UNESA, this article can help us understand how university cinema in Brazil faces its challenges in building a cinema yet to come.
