América Latina e Portugal: novas interações entre culinária, performance e vídeo na série INTOXICAÇÃO
Resumo
My interest in cuisine inspired the question “What do you eat?” that currently drives my creative processes in video and performance, the theme of this communication. “What do you eat?” is part of the INTOXICAÇÃO series, which continues and consolidates the cuisine theme in my artistic practice. The subject has been investigated, recorded, and traversed by performance since the mid-1990s. For three decades, this bias of video performance has focused on recording the ingestion of something edible and, in particular, on the systematization of scripts for recording and interacting in performances. During this period, different equipment was used, the creative processes changed, as did the conceptual interests. The centrality of the issue of food intake in my research brought a geopolitical dimension to the INTOXICAÇÃO series: the previous works were dedicated to the body and the problematization of exemplary aspects of works from Art History; now the iconographic link is gone, and the focus is on the modifications that took place in Portuguese cuisine with the introduction of ingredients that were once endemic in Latin America. Thus, this communication will report how the entry of new fields of investigation, such as cuisine, transformed the artistic process of the series in question. What were traditional Portuguese recipes like before the first transatlantic voyages? “What do you eat?” will create, through performance and video, versions of recipes “emptied from Latin America,” updating old combinations. In this continuation of the INTOXICAÇÃO series, performance and video will interact through “reverse transactions.”
